ADMARC Invests in Grain Dryers to Boost Market Efficiency

ADMARC has ushered in a new era of agricultural efficiency with the acquisition of modern grain dryers. This strategic investment is set to eliminate one of the most persistent challenges in Malawi’s grain market, high moisture content that delayed market entry and reduced crop value.

For years, ADMARC grappled with moisture-related delays that not only affected the quality of grain but also hindered timely participation in competitive markets. With the new dryers in place, ADMARC is now equipped to process grain swiftly and reliably, ensuring early entry to markets and better returns for producers.

Speaking on the development, ADMARC CEO Daniel Makata emphasized the transformative impact of the initiative: “This investment marks a turning point for ADMARC and for farmers. With these dryers, we are no longer at the mercy of moisture delays. We are entering the market early, competitively, and with quality grain that meets national and international standards.”

But ADMARC’s transformation goes far beyond drying. The corporation is actively expanding its footprint across the agricultural value chain, with renewed focus on production, trading, and value addition.

ADMARC is now involved in cultivating crops such as maize and groundnuts. By engaging in its own farming operations, ADMARC aims to stabilise supply, and demonstrate best practices to smallholder farmers. “This approach not only enhances food security but also positions ADMARC as a model for modern agricultural development.”

The company continues to serve as a trusted buyer and seller of various commodities, offering fair prices and dependable market access to farmers across Malawi. The company is currently purchasing maize, beans, groundnuts, soya beans, pigeon peas, cowpeas, and rice. By maintaining a strong presence in rural communities, ADMARC helps reduce exploitation by middlemen and ensures that farmers receive value for their produce. Its trading operations also support national food reserves and contribute to price stabilisation in local markets.

Another key pillar ADMARC is focusing on is value addition, as it transforms raw agricultural products into high-quality consumer goods. The company mills maize into flour, polishes and packages rice, and cleans and processes groundnuts and beans for sale. These efforts not only enhance the shelf life and marketability of local produce but also generate employment opportunities in processing, packaging, and distribution.

ADMARC’s renewed focus on innovation, efficiency, and inclusivity is a clear signal of its commitment to supporting Malawi’s farmers and strengthening the country’s agricultural economy. With grain dryers now operational and a robust strategy in place, ADMARC is poised to lead the way in transforming agriculture from subsistence to sustainability.
