ADMARC honours Mothers in Chikwawa with Food Support

As part of Mother’s Day celebrations, ADMARC Limited has distributed Thanzi Maize Flour and rice worth about K4 million to grandmothers in Chikwawa District, one of the districts hit by food shortages.

The event, held in Chikwawa, brought smiles and relief to over 100 grandmothers, many of whom continue to face food insecurity. This comes at a time when the 2025 Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) report indicates that 22 percent of Malawi’s population will be unable to meet their annual food needs.

Speaking during the distribution, Theresa Chapulapula, ADMARC Limited’s spokesperson, emphasized the vital role women play at both household and community levels.

“We cannot talk about the success of ADMARC Limited’s activities without mentioning our mothers,” she said. “These are women who not only feed their families but are also key stakeholders in our operations, as farmers, as customers, and as leaders in their communities. That is why today, we celebrate them.”

She also indicated that the event was not only about the distribution of food, but also about recognition and appreciation.

“This Mother’s Day, we wanted to go beyond celebration. We wanted to stand with our grandmothers in Chikwawa, to say thank you, and to remind them that ADMARC values them.”

Village Headman Layimoni praised the gesture, describing it as timely especially in light of the growing food crisis.

“We did not know how we would celebrate Mother’s Day because we had no food. But with this support, we will now celebrate with joy and a meal. I also encourage my fellow farmers to continue supporting ADMARC by selling to and buying from them, because they are the ones who stand with us in times of need,” she said.

ADMARC Limited is mandated to support macro-economic development through the marketing and value addition of agricultural commodities for both local and export markets. It also implements key government policies on food security and price stabilisation, while providing accessible markets for smallholder farmers.
